Whitney consistently provides compassionate care to her patients and their family members. Recently, we had a little boy who was having a surgical procedure the day after his birthday. In an effort to distract him while starting his IV, Whitney asked him what he had done and what he had gotten for his birthday. He told her he had not gotten anything because his mom said they couldn’t afford anything this year. Whitney spoke privately with the mother and asked if it would be ok for her to do something special for him. While this little boy was in surgery, Whitney went to our hospital gift shop and purchased the child a teddy bear and a ball. She had the items wrapped and ready for him when he returned to his Day Surgery room. This small gesture made this little boy so happy! Whitney always goes the extra mile to make every patient feel cared for like family.
