Whitney took it upon herself to ensure that my mom was taken care of just as well out of the hospital as she was by her in the hospital.
We all have stories or will eventually have them about how someone will touch us or our loved ones who are in need of medical attention for the good or bad. I am writing to share my most recent experience with Whitney Davy.

My mother works at Sutter Sacramento as a float/break relief nurse. Last year she contracted COVID-19 from one of the patients she was caring for. Over the course of 14 days she began to decompensate pretty rapidly, resulting in her needing to be brought to the emergency department, and subsequently be admitted at the hospital she works for and where Whitney works. When my mom was admitted, Whitney was assigned to care for her. She knew my mom from when she would break relief her.

Whitney would care for my mother with grace, selflessness, and compassion. She treated her like she was her mother. She was my mother’s point person, cheerleader, and advocate. I have interacted with many nurses in my career as a professor of nursing, bedside ED RN for 7 years, and now as a Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner. I can say with confidence that Whitney is one of the Best nurses out there. She went above and beyond, and beyond, and beyond, and out of her way to care for my mom.

Whitney took it upon herself to ensure that my mom was taken care of just as well out of the hospital as she was by her in the hospital. Nurses are not made alike but I wish all nurses could be like Whitney. She is remarkable and a shining star in sometimes a dark world of illness, pain, and sickness, but it’s so refreshing to know that Whitney is out there being the light to people day in and day out, selflessly giving her all to everyone around her. The world needs to know who Whitney is and what kind of selfless nurse she is.
