The first thing Whitney said that told me she was the perfect nurse for our family was, "You have the right to change your mind at any time..."
I am overwhelmed on beginning to share how amazing my experience was in Labor and Delivery at Ascension St. John Jane Phillips. I would like to nominate Whitney Fielding for the DAISY Award as being the reason that I will continue trusting Jane Phillips for the care of my family and future family.
My husband and I arrived at the hospital during shift change, and were quickly greeted by staff and moved to labor and delivery where we first met Whitney. After having been laboring for 6 hours prior to arrival, Whitney was quick to discuss pain management options and set realistic expectations for what the coming hours would look like. The first thing Whitney said that told me she was the perfect nurse for our family was, "You have the right to change your mind at any time. You can have an epidural or not, the choice is yours, but I won't bring it up again unless you ask me".
The second reason I would like to nominate Whitney is because of her advocacy for me during labor. Her suggestions of a mirror to see my labor progress, and suggesting Pitocin, helped me understand the advantages and opportunities of having help during active labor. Although these were hugely important to me during labor, this does not even begin to describe all that Whitney did for us behind the scenes. We feel lucky to have Whitney not only for labor but also for recovery. We are thankful she got to walk us out of the hospital the following day. Thank you, Whitney, for all you did for the delivery of our sweet boy.
Note: This is Whitney's 2nd DAISY Award!
