Throughout this stressful time, Whitney provided care that was both clinically excellent and profoundly tender.
I am writing to recognize Whitney Griffey for the extraordinary, compassionate, and protective care she provided to my mother during her recent hospitalization.
Her actions went far beyond standard nursing practices as Whitney was an advocate and a source of immense comfort to our entire family.
From the beginning, Whitney understood my mother's fragility and need for "bloodless care" due to her complex condition. She didn't just do notes in the chart; she took proactive, tangible steps to ensure every team member kept that in mind.
Whitney created, printed, and hung clear notes at my mother's bedside and at the room's door to remind lab personnel of the necessity for minimal blood draws. This simple act of advocacy showed a level of dedication and foresight that meant a lot to us as a family.
Whitney’s advocacy continued after my mother underwent a drop in oxygen; we suspected a blood clot in the lung, something that the CT scan confirmed later.
After my mother came back from the CT scan and needed another echo test, Whitney recognized that transporting my mother for this test might not only be uncomfortable but potentially harmful, causing her to be shaken.
She advocated and requested that the test be performed at the bedside since that was possible to do. Because of her persistence, my mother was spared that ordeal and could undergo the test in her room in relative comfort.
In our opinion, this was an intervention that prioritized my mother's comfort and well-being over institutional convenience. That allowed my mother to have some rest at night.
Throughout this stressful time, Whitney provided care that was both clinically excellent and profoundly tender. She treated my mother with gentleness and made sure she was always comfortable.
Just as importantly, she cared for our family. She consistently checked in on us, anticipating whether it was answering questions, explaining next steps, or simply offering a word of reassurance. She made us feel supported during a very frightening and stressful time.
