I had laparoscopic bowel surgery and was moved from ICU to PCU. Whitney came in and introduced herself and took the time to answer any of my questions and explain basically what would be happening. She was thorough, interested and interesting. She knew the job and did it very well. I had to start getting up to walk, so she decided on the time and she let me go as much as I wanted without going too far (I tend to the extremes). She let me go at my pace but she did not let me get too wound up. Of course, prior to that, she'd been coming by about every 30 minutes to check if I needed up to use the bathroom or needed anything. I was an RN and I hate ringing the call bell for anything, but she made it clear that it was not merely her "job" to come. She enjoyed learning and listening to all of her patients. The level of care was above and beyond. Whitney was caring, knowledgeable, good-natured and more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure my needs were met. From education to just listening to me and my tales from the dark side to making sure my food was right, my pain, my meds, and monitors were all taken care of 100 + 20%!
