Whitney went above and beyond with my sister and me, trying to keep our mother from pulling out her NG tube, and from hurting herself and us.
My 88-year-old Mom was admitted to BMC in September for an emergency ileostomy. All the staff, nurses, and doctors were above and beyond helpful, considerate, and very compassionate. My Mom went from the surgical floor to the ICU, then back to the surgical floor, then to physical therapy. Just before she was set to go home, she had a setback and was moved to 4 West for a problem with her small bowel not working properly. This is where we met Whitney.
All the staff were very attentive to my mom and made her feel as comfortable as possible. Her setback included having to have an NG tube that took several attempts to place. Being bedridden for more than four days was a waiting game to see if her small bowel would start working. On one of those nights, my Mom was moving erratically, we believe it was from a reaction to one of the medications she was given. Whitney went above and beyond with my sister and me, trying to keep our mother from pulling out her NG tube, and from hurting herself and us. My Mom was all over, swinging her arms and legs, and for an 88-year-old, she had exceptional strength. It continued for several hours, and Whitney was there with us. Monitoring my mom’s breathing, vitals, and communicating with my mom’s doctors and interns.
We are so Grateful Whitney was there! She handled the entire situation with professionalism, sensitivity, and understanding. We requested that she have my mom every shift she was on after that. I'm happy to report that two days later, my mom’s small bowel started moving. She did go to Rehab and has returned home.
