The patient wrote to commend Whitney Smith, going into great detail about why Whitney was deserving of the DAISY Award. For example, she said, "She never once made me feel stupid and kept putting my mind to ease when I got nervous. When I arrived at the hospital she had come in to assess me and had the best bedside manner I have seen in quite some time. I am a RN myself and it is nice to see that there are nurses out there that enjoy what they do and take the time to establish that rapport with their patients."

The patient said Whitney was also reassuring throughout the three-day stay and again put her mind at ease after she'd been discharged and called in with a concern. "It's nurses like her I come into contact with that make me proud to be a nurse."
