I was scared but I remember Whitney’s reassuring voice coaching me through what was happening.
My husband and I went into the hospital for an induction of our first little miracle baby. We have been married for 13 years with no luck getting pregnant. We decided to try IVF and became pregnant with our little girl. I had preeclampsia and at 37 weeks we were a little scared about how things would turn out and worried about how she would do being early term. Whitney came on shift that morning just as my labor started to progress. She was so kind and helped to talk and coach me through different positions to help with labor and to hopefully move the baby down. I don’t know how many patients she had that day, but we truly felt like her only focus. I remember hearing her unwavering support and coaching through my epidural. She was right there reminding me to breathe and relax through some tough contractions. She was also super kind and was there for my husband when he was at a loss for how to help.
When things started to take a turn and my blood pressure got too high and we were being taken for a c-section I was scared but I remember Whitney’s reassuring voice coaching me through what was happening. By the time the c-section was about to happen her shift was over, but she stayed to help us through this scary adventure. While we were in the c-section room Whitney was nice enough to take a bunch of pictures of the delivery and dad cutting the cord which is something that we never would have had pictures of had it not been for her going above and beyond. I will forever cherish the very first pictures of our little girl. Whitney ended up staying an extra 3 hours after her shift was over that she didn’t have to, but I will forever be grateful for her unwavering support through a crazy adventure that was one of the scariest but best days of my life.
