I’ve been honored to work alongside Will over the years, and there is no better example of a DAISY Nurse Leader.
We would like to nominate Will for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award because he consistently exemplifies what true leadership in nursing should look like. He leads with compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to our hospital and his team. What makes Will exceptional is his ability to balance support with high expectations. He is incredibly caring and dedicated not only to patient care but also to the well-being of the nurses that he leads. Will creates an environment where staff feel heard, respected, and protected. When challenges arise, he stands up for his team and ensures that we have the resources and support needed to provide safe, high-quality care.

At the same time, Will challenges us to grow. He believes deeply in the potential of every nurse on the team and encourages us to practice at the top of our abilities. His intelligence and clinical insight guide our hospital through complex situations, and he is always willing to teach, mentor, and share his knowledge. Will fosters a culture of accountability, teamwork, and trust. Because he believes in us, we strive to be better leaders and better advocates for our nursing teams and the patients in our respective departments. His leadership inspires confidence and motivates the entire team to deliver the best possible care every day. A great nurse leader protects their team while pushing them to succeed, and that is exactly what Will does. Our hospital is stronger, safer, and more compassionate because of his leadership.

I want to nominate Will Bean for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Will is a very compassionate leader with a deep commitment to St. Charles. I witnessed Will volunteer to sit with a patient in the ED when we had multiple patients that required PSA's, and he saw a need. This patient went from sitting in a room with a sad demeanor to engaging in conversation with Will about books and hobbies. Will took this patient on a walk, setting clear boundaries but understanding the need for a change in scenery. Will is a great example of what he asks of his caregivers. He is not above any task and is a better leader because he understands and is willing to do any task he asks of his team. Will shows up! I am blessed to work with Will and learn from his compassion and commitment. St Charles is blessed to have him as a director.

I’m really proud to nominate Will for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.

At his core, Will is about people: his patients, his team, and the Madras community. He leads with a clear “patient and community first” mindset, and you can see it in the decisions he makes every day.

What I appreciate most about Will is how he shows up for our nurses. He is steady, approachable, and genuinely invested in their success. He creates an environment where nurses feel supported and safe to speak up, grow, and do the right thing for patients. He doesn’t just say he supports his team, he proves it in how he listens, how he responds, and how he advocates for them.

Will is a true servant leader. He never asks someone to do something he wouldn’t do himself. Whether it’s stepping in to help, working through challenges alongside his team, or simply being present when it matters most, he leads shoulder to shoulder with his team, creating a level of trust that empowers people and brings out their best.

Will brings a level of empathy and intuition to his leadership that really stands out. He reads people well, senses when something isn’t right, and leans in with compassion and support. He leads with heart, but also with purpose, balancing kindness with accountability in a way that earns deep respect from his team.

Will lives out a core belief we hold at St. Charles, that our strength is in our people. He invests in his team, sees potential in others, and creates the conditions for them to succeed. You can feel that in the culture he’s building; one where people matter, voices are heard, and teams are stronger because of it.

He’s also a natural mentor. Will spends time developing other leaders, helping them think through challenges, build confidence, and grow into their roles. What also stands out is that Will’s leadership extends well beyond his own department. He shows up as a partner across the organization, supporting peers, stepping in to help solve system challenges, and contributing to work that strengthens care beyond Madras. He doesn’t operate in silos. He leans in where needed, shares perspective, and helps move the work forward in a way that benefits the whole system. That kind of leadership makes others better and elevates the organization as a whole.

Will brings a calm, thoughtful presence to his leadership. He doesn’t overreact; he leans in, listens, and focuses on solutions. Even in tough moments, he keeps things grounded and centered on what’s best for patients and the team.

He lives our values; Accountability, Caring, Teamwork, and Safety aren’t just words to him. They show up in how he leads and how his team shows up every day. I’ve been honored to work alongside Will over the years, and there is no better example of a DAISY Nurse Leader.
