I want to nominate William Arnold, RN who works in the OR. Bill works with Dr. Nazarro in Deep Brain Stimulation cases where the patient is awake throughout surgery. These patients have movement disorders like Parkinson’s and one of our neurologists works with them while electrodes are placed in the brain. Since being awake during these cases is uncomfortable, Bill’s easy-going manner helps comfort patients and his attention to their needs helps surgery go more smoothly.

Bill also helps colleagues when his cases are finished; whether it is neurosurgical or other services. He has stayed late to help set up a surgical table with new attachments for a particular case when he had set this up only once before! He has come to help in the Burn Unit OR on the 5th floor and stayed to assist when needed. I’ve heard other nurses say he has come to help in other situations too.
