Bill always goes above and beyond his call of duty.

Bill truly demonstrates the "I CARE" Principles on a daily basis. Bill is an extraordinary nurse, he always says "Hi" to everyone with a smile on his face. Not only is Bill very friendly and always approachable, but he is very knowledgeable and helpful to all. He treats his patients with respect and genuinely surrenders top quality care to all under his care. Although Bill does not work on my unit, every time he floats to our unit he is always appreciated because we all know what a great team player he is. Bill never complains about his given assignment. Not only does he never complain, but he will always lend a helping hand whenever in need.

Bill always goes above and beyond his call of duty. I'll never forget the one time he floated to our unit during an evening shift. I had a patient whose mother was here visiting from out of state. She was staying at a hotel. My patient's mother called for an Uber to pick her up and take her back to the hotel because is was late at night (9pm) and she was too scared to walk on her own. The Uber driver never picked her up because they could not find the building. She came back up to the unit and asked if her knew of another mode to transportation to the hotel. We called security hoping they would do her a favor and take her, but unfortunately they could not provide her with transportation. I told her I could take her once I get off work at 11:30pm, but Bill overheard our conversation and jumped to the rescue. Bill offered to walk her back to the hotel. He took his lunch time to walk my patient's mother to the hotel. I thought this was very nice of Bill. He took his own time to walk my patient's mother to the 'spooky old abandoned grounds" where the hotel was located. His kindness did not only touch my patient's mom, but all of 2 South evening staff including myself and my patient.

My patient wanted me to write this nomination before he would be discharged, but then COVID happened. Although this incident happened before COVID, it was so touching I will never forget it. This I am sure is only one example of many selfless acts of kindness he demonstrates on a daily basis. He genuinely cares and never asks for anything in return.

One of Bill's famous quotes is, "I always tell myself, I don't have to go to work, I get to go to work". Bill loves being a nurse and we can tell he enjoys his job. He is an exceptional role model. He is caring, empathetic, committed to patient advocacy, has superb communication skills, pays attention to detail, quick at problem solving, and always has a great sense of humor.

Bill you are a true hero! Your selfless gestures, positive attitude, and famous quotes will always be remembered by all those who know you. Thank you for all you do, you are most deserving of this prestigious Award.

Dependable: Always and especially during COVID surge, Bill was always available to help train new and Registry staff with orientation. We often would have multiple orientations going on in a single day and Bill would just say, "Put me where you need me" without question. During this time, Bill was also helping on the unit, sometimes working overtime.

Altruistic: Always willing to help others, whether staff on the floor and/or patients and their family. Bill is always considerate and shows a lot of compassion with everything he does. I've had multiple staff tell me that when Bill floated to their unit, he would help them with whatever different things they needs help with, while still caring for his patients.

Interesting: If you've ever attended any of the classes Bill has taught, you will know his classes are always interesting. He takes the time to not only explain so everyone can understand, but will include jokes and stories to help.

Special: He is always willing to go the extra mile for patients and for staff without reservation.

Yes: You-can attitude - Bill always has a positive attitude. I have never heard him say, "we cannot do that" but rather, "how can we do that?" He is very compassionate about everything that he does and treats all people with dignity and respect! Bill is extraordinary and goes above and beyond what is asked of him. He has a positive impact on everyone that he meets (patient and/or staff). Bill is so deserving of this Award!
