May 2017 Honoree
wilma gamundoy, RN, BSN
My mother was moved to the Cardiac unit due to Afib. I had not been to the ladies room in many hours, so as not to leave my mother. She did not want me to let go of her hand. Nurse Wilma was in the room when I told Mom that I was going to step into the restroom for a few minutes. Mother began to get upset, which causes her heart rate to increase. Nurse Wilma told me to go ahead. She took Mom's hand and softly rubbed her hand and forearm. She spoke softly to her until my return. I can't tell you how much comfort she was to my mother and me. Compassion and Nursing go hand in hand, and Nurse Wilma is an example we should all follow.
Thank you, Wilma, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
