In 2011, my mom started to not feel well and lost probably close to 75 pounds in less than 6 months. Finally in late December of 2011 she went to the doctor in Lake City. It was within a few days that we found out mom had kidney cancer that couldn't be healed. In mid 2012 we all decided it was time to put Mom on hospice care. We went with Lake City because we have always gone there for healthcare.
All the nurses were wonderful! There was one nurse that really stood out, Windy Goodwin. Windy treated my mom just like she was her own. She treated all of us with such great respect it was so comforting knowing that there are such great people out there in the world still. Once my mom got sick and I watched Windy take care of her, it inspired me so much.
I strive to be the nurse that Windy is when I get there in my life. Windy has helped me decide that I want to be, a nurse, to help and treat people the way that Windy helped my mom and my family through everything. Windy is my inspiration.
