Just wanted to let you know of a critical situation that occurred tonight. There was an 11-month-old baby who had esophageal dilatation during the day. He came to the floor around 6:30 pm. Yadira received him with stridor (as he was for the day nurse also) and in respiratory distress. Surgical ROD was notified and dismissed her concerns. She continued to monitor the patient and was uncomfortable with how he looked and called the doctor who ordered a chest x-ray which showed a tension pneumothorax. With 28 patients on our floor and PICU full, the patient was emergently transferred to the OR and then to recover in PICU. The doctor himself thanked Yadira and told her she saved that baby's life. Because of her perseverance and care for her patient, he will hopefully make a full recovery.
