Congratulation to Yamilka Hidalgo in being named our Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center/Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre September 2022 DAISY Award Winner! Ms. Hidalgo was nominated by a patient's family who stated, “Yamilka showed exemplary skill, compassion, and attentiveness following my father’s recent surgery and stay in the intensive care unit. She took the time to explain everything and answer questions without ever making us feel rushed; my father was her priority.” Ms. Hidalgo graduated in 2015 as a respiratory therapist and then pursued a career in nursing, graduating with her bachelor’s in nursing in June 2022. Yamilka started working as a respiratory therapist for Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in July 2015, making the switch to nursing at Geisinger in July 2020. Ms. Hidalgo stated that she wanted to stay with Geisinger because everyone strives to provide excellent patient care. Working in the Intensive Care Unit can be overwhelming, but Ms. Hidalgo contributes her success to her great colleagues/team. “The unit is full of respect, kindness, and diversity.” Thank you, Yamilka, for the extraordinary care you provide to our patients and their families!
