For the first time in recent memory, one of our DAISY Award recipients was nominated by both the patient and their spouse. Additionally, during our presentation, a patient in the unit expressed a desire to witness the DAISY Award presentation before being sent for his procedure:

I am very pleased with the nurses and techs that I had during my last stay at the hospital, but my nurse, Yana, was above and beyond with the care she provided me. She made the most frequent checks to see if I needed anything and to make sure no more allergic reactions occurred. I felt so comfortable with her care and compassion! She also did a super job working with the doctor, our pharmacy, and our insurance company to make sure all of our prescriptions were ready and available for us to pick up (there were a couple of items that were pending and needed further clarification from the doctor).

She explained every procedure to my husband, verifying that he understood. She carefully watched over him while walking and taking care of him, making him feel he was her only patient. She spoke with the doctor at length when we had issues with having our new medication requested through the pharmacy. She made multiple phone calls to the prescribing doctors, and she also spent time with our insurance company on the phone to make sure they had the right prescriptions and to find out why they were denying the request. She went out of her way to contact the doctor again to have the two RX covered when they were denying them both. Over and beyond, she is wonderful in every way. We are very grateful! Thank you, Yana!
