Our patient made a special trip to Santa Ana Medical Office administration to rave about one of our RNs, Yanet Carcache. The patient initially visited our Nurse Clinic as part of the progression of his Diabetes management. He had been prescribed a glucometer and was referred for teaching. The patient came away from his encounter with Yanet, not only feeling competent in the use of his new instrument but like the person who had taught him truly cared about him. In his words. "Yanet demonstrated empathy and an acute awareness of how different people's learning styles can be." During this initial visit, Yanet read the instructions with him, physically showed him how to use the glucometer, and had him demonstrate what he had learned. As she instructed him, she personalized the visit and expressed optimism and confidence in not only his ability to effectively use the glucometer but his ability to do his part in managing his chronic illness.
Since the initial teaching, Yanet has seen this patient in the nurse clinic on several occasions for various reasons. The patient states that she always inquiries about his overall health and wellbeing, the way a caring friend or family member would. She makes him feel like he is not battling his illness alone. On top of that, she simply provides the best quality care he has ever experienced. In his words, Yanet is "Awesome" and should be teaching nurses everywhere how to provide excellent care in a compassionate way.
