I am honored to nominate Professor Yanet Velazquez for the DAISY Award because she is an exceptional educator who truly prepares her students for the realities of nursing. She is currently teaching me Med-Surg 1, the foundation of our nursing careers, and her approach to teaching is both rigorous and deeply impactful. Professor Velazquez is one of the rare instructors who ensures that students truly learn, whether they like it or not. She holds us accountable, challenges us to think critically, and instills the responsibility that comes with caring for human lives. Some students may resist the level of discipline she enforces, but the reality is that nursing demands it. Her commitment to shaping competent, compassionate nurses is undeniable. She explains concepts clearly, engages the entire class, and never simply reads from a PowerPoint. She also makes herself available for one-on-one support, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. Her passion for nursing and teaching is evident, and she inspires us to rise to the challenge. I genuinely hope she has the opportunity to teach more courses because I would rearrange my schedule just to learn from her again. Professor Velazquez is the kind of educator who leaves a lasting impact, and I believe she is truly deserving of this award.
