Yasmin Rodriguez Aparicio, BSN RN

Yasmin Aparicio was assigned to a young patient last week, who was Spanish-speaking only. The patient had end-stage metastatic cancer, which got worse with the diagnosis of Covid this admission. It was the weekend and both oncology and primary doctors wanted to have a plan of care discussion with the patient and her family. I felt this process required a more compassionate touch, so I reached out to Yasmin. Yasmin did an outstanding job translating back and forth. She used her clinical expertise. She was very professional, maintaining mutual respect even when one family member got a bit aggressive. Yasmin was able to convince both the patient and her family at the end to come to a mutual agreement which was hard but beneficial for the patient. The patient was able to make critical decisions for herself from that point onward. Thank you so much, Yasmin, for stepping up, bracing, and enhancing Inova’s core values and helping me, our patient, and their family make crucial decisions during a difficult situation. You are an amazing coworker and a wonderful nurse.
