A few years ago, I was a patient on ICU admission following delivery of my baby & that was when I met Nurse Amoo. She was quick to recognise that aside from being physically ill, sickle cell was taking an emotional toll on me, and she would spend a few extra minutes here & there to check how I was really doing mentally. She cared not only about administering antibiotics and painkillers but also about my psyche, reassuring me that my baby was fine and I would see him soon. Her impact hastened my fast recovery, and I’m grateful for the holistic care she provided.
