She stayed four hours past the end of her shift one day to translate during a family meeting. Yissel even came in on her day off to visit and bring the patient blue raspberry popsicles after she mentioned it was the only thing she wanted to eat.
Yissel has gone above and beyond for a family on IMCU as they navigate a terminal and devastating diagnosis for a young patient. She has spent the majority of her shifts at the bedside translating for the patient and her family. She has been the patient advocate and voice of reason. She has reiterated the difficult prognosis brought forward by providers and done everything she can for the family to best understand the medical jargon.

Yissel has been to the unit even when working elsewhere to ensure the family was supported. Taking additional time to explain, translate, and advocate. She stayed four hours past the end of her shift one day to translate during a family meeting. Yissel even came in on her day off to visit and bring the patient blue raspberry popsicles after she mentioned it was the only thing she wanted to eat.

Yissel is the most compassionate and kind human and nurse-working alongside of her, we see this daily, but this specific example shows how much Yissel truly loves what she does.

The family, but most importantly, the patient, was so very lucky to have Yissel to help navigate such a heartbreaking and devastating time in their life.

YOU ARE TRULY AN AMAZING NURSE

This patient has a terminal illness with a very complicated history. The family is very involved and is a Spanish-speaking family.   I was very happy to know Yissel could explain to them in Spanish. But later, I was very impressed with her as she was taking extraordinary care of the patient, updating the family and the provider while she was on the other floor.

The next day, she came to see the patient and the family during her lunch break. Yissel is an asset to our hospital. She is efficient and very responsible, and she impressed me with her extra care for this patient.
