My nurse brought me back to life when I was at my worst. After my surgery, I pretty much gave up on hospitals as well as myself. I felt like no one listened to me or believed me, until I met this nurse. She did three things that brought me back, which were listen, explain, and plan. She did those things by going above and beyond a nurse's duty.

First, she took the time to listen to what I was going through and asked what I wanted or needed. She explained what I needed to do as a patient to get back on my feet. She explained her role as a nurse to help me succeed. That same night after surgery, she designed a plan incorporating my goals, hospital goals, as well as her goals for me. Later that same night, I was already on my feet.

I was amazed; just a couple of hours ago I told myself I was never going to make it out of bed. She explained to me the difference between pain and surgical pain. She taught me when I need certain meds and specific things to look out for. I learned which pain I could manage and which pain I needed to just relax through. Most of all she taught me, it’s ok for me to feel hurt and down but at some point, I must push myself to get back on my feet.

No nurse has ever taken the time and effort to bring me back to life. Yolanda is a nurse touched by God to bless and help others, and that's what she did for me!

Thank you, Yolanda, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
