Yoleimy Soto-Diaz, RN
I would like to recognize Yoleimy “Jo” Soto-Diaz for the exceptional care she provided to my father during his stay in the ICU.
My father, a 77-year-old former Marine, was critically ill, and this was an incredibly stressful and uncertain time for our family. We had the privilege of having Jo as his nurse for three consecutive days, and during that time, she made an immeasurable difference in both his care and our peace of mind.
From the moment she took over his care, I never once worried about him. Jo was consistently present, attentive, and proactive, always nearby when he needed her and often checking in even when he didn’t need her. Her clinical knowledge and confidence were evident in every interaction. She kept us informed with clear, thorough updates about his condition, lab results, and progress, which helped us feel included and reassured during a very difficult time.
What truly set Jo apart were the thoughtful, compassionate touches she brought to her care. She went above and beyond in ways that did not go unnoticed, like placing a towel over my father while he ate to help preserve his dignity, offering him an electric razor to freshen up, offering to heat up his meals, making sure he had ice with his drinks, and anticipating needs before we even had to ask. These small but meaningful acts made him more comfortable and at ease, even during such a difficult time.
Jo was also incredibly kind and supportive to our family. She treated us with warmth, patience, and respect, taking the time to answer questions and ensure we felt heard and understood. In a setting that can often feel overwhelming, her presence brought a sense of calm and trust.
In every way, Jo exemplifies what a nurse should be. She is compassionate, skilled, attentive, and deeply committed to her patients. Nurses like Jo make a lasting impact on both patients and their families, and she is truly deserving of this recognition.
She is, in my opinion, the gold standard of nursing, and I am so grateful for the care she provided to my father.
