I'm 40. I'm no fan of hospitals. Having chest pain that radiated down my arm and up in my jaw landed me at Methodist Hospital ER, ultimately on the 4N Floor. Poor Ysabel! I am not a good patient. In fact, I tend to consistently treat my body more like an amusement park than a temple. As one friend tells me: most people land in the hospital because of either self-inflicted wounds or doing something not so bright. I am no exception.
Staying overnight on 4N was challenging for me. Ysabel made this very stressful, screwed-up wake-up call more palatable. She treated me as a person, not a bed number or a throng of symptoms. She joked with me, laid out what's next for tests, treatment, and food, and was always positive and kind.
It is with deepest gratitude I write this to Ysabel for her service, kindness, respect, and enthusiasm to help others, even me.
Last night I was supposed to address a room full of future leaders to "say yes" when opportunity knocks. Ysabel inspired me to hear opportunity knocking in my own life. Thank you for going the extra mile, it made all the difference!
