Yurcania Toribio, MSN, RN, DCES
I am a combat veteran with service disabilities and a practicing trial attorney in the State of New York. I receive my healthcare through the Buffalo VAMC in Western New York and also have been treated with the VA in Syracuse and Rochester NY.
Approximately one year ago I was reviewing a medication refill order when I realized that a medicine was set to be mailed to me two days after the current prescription runs out, meaning I'd go without medicine for about 7-10 days. After several attempts to contact the Buffalo VA, I finally got through to an RN named Yurcania Toribio.
Ms. Toribio listened to me, heard what my issues were, and addressed them immediately. She took the time not only to address my chief concern but she made me feel understood and listened to. Ms. Toribio made me feel like I was not a patient, I was not a veteran, treated by the VA system as a human being. Ms. Toribio was able to make me feel cared for.
From the bottom of my heart even one year after this experience I express my thanks to her. I truly hope that the VA realizes how incredibly lucky it is to have an employee like Ms. Toribio.
