Yvonne is an excellent nurse and peer, and overall, a wonderful person!
As a nurse, you know which nurses on the unit you would want taking care of you or a family member if you/they were ever a patient. I would want Yvonne to take care of me or anyone else I love and care about. She has many years of experience under her belt, and I feel like she continues to deliver the best care possible every shift. She helps keep me accountable and makes me want to be a better nurse every time we work together.
Yvonne doesn't compromise when it comes to patient safety. Sometimes patients may not understand, but she is always looking at the big picture! I had a patient tell me that he remembered her voice from when she had taken care of him over 2 years ago! He told me that Yvonne really knows her stuff and that he trusts her completely. Yvonne always has great suggestions for the unit and is never afraid to verbalize her opinions. I have taken many of her suggestions to the UPC.
Yvonne has the ability to connect with patients in a way that not all nurses can. For example, she had a patient who was going through a very rough time in his life. She gave him her time, listened with a sympathetic and empathetic heart, and was honest with the patient. Along with the PCT, she made the patient feel like a brand-new person, and he was so grateful. For the first time, I think he truly felt seen and was able to trust that he was in good hands.
She has, on multiple occasions, assuaged patients' and family members' concerns by just listening and having the knowledge that she does! Her wealth of knowledge gives me comfort when I don't know what to do! She is always willing to help when asked. She jumped in to help when we had a particularly difficult bedside procedure to perform and completed the task with ease. The way she comforted the patient while also completing the uncomfortable task of inserting an NG tube (which had to be put in by a surgeon due to its difficulty!) made the overall experience so much better for everyone involved. I can think of so many more times Yvonne has exemplified patient-centered care and has been a team player. Yvonne is an excellent nurse and peer, and overall, a wonderful person!
