I was admitted to NMH on the Galter 10 nursing unit, and I had honestly been feeling very low because this was my 2nd admission in the span of 2 weeks. Zach, however, is truly a nurse who stands out amongst all the phenomenal and talented nurses on the unit. Zach is knowledgeable, resourceful, and very skilled in his profession. You can tell that Zach truly has a great skill set and experience to ensure that he provides phenomenal patient care. This is not, however, what makes Zach a nurse who shines brightest amongst the rest. Zach truly took the time to treat me, not as a patient, but as a person. He treated my holistic issues, and while he was able to get me through the aches and pains, he also lifted my mood and made my family feel assured that we were in good hands. There were many instances where other nurses on the unit would ask Zach for help with their patients and, while Zach would go and help them, I never felt like I was shorted on time with my care team. I truly do not understand how Zach could provide this level of care to not only the patients assigned to him but to all the patients on the unit, along with his colleagues and team members. In addition, there were many instances where I felt too tired to walk around the unit, but Zach was my biggest motivator, who encouraged me to go on these walks and get moving to feel well again. He was my biggest advocate who voiced all my concerns and needs in real time to make sure that I was getting the level of care that I needed. Zach is not only a nurse, but he’s also an advocate, an inspirational coach, a team player, a shoulder to cry on, a lifeline, and most importantly, a terrific person all around. It is because Zach excels in all these different roles that you can tell that he is a great asset to his unit, but he is also an even better nurse to his patients. I am so lucky to have met Zach on this admission, and I know great things lie ahead for him because he is just such a great person who brings positive energy to every situation.
