April 2026 Honoree
Zachery Spears, RN
I would like to recognize Zach for the exceptional compassion, dedication, and teamwork he demonstrated while caring for one of our patients.
After completing his case, Zach went above and beyond by returning to the CCU multiple times to assist with a vascular access site that was difficult to stop bleeding. Rather than leaving after his responsibilities were complete, he remained invested in ensuring the patient received the best possible care. This patient had a developmental delay and was becoming increasingly agitated about having to remain flat for several hours following the procedure.
Zach took the time to thoughtfully assess the situation, offering practical suggestions to help keep the patient's extremity still while also helping reduce their anxiety. He maintained excellent communication with the cardiologist, relaying important updates and advocating for the patient's needs to ensure appropriate post-procedure care.
What stood out most was that Zach's concern did not end when he left the unit. He later called to check on both the patient and the staff, demonstrating genuine compassion and accountability for the patient's outcome.
Zach exemplifies the values of exceptional nursing through his clinical expertise, collaboration, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. His willingness to go above and beyond made a meaningful difference for both the patient and the care team. He is truly deserving of recognition through the DAISY Award.
