Nurse Zai went above and beyond - she wasn't even my nurse on shift during that weekend, but when another nurse told us she was busy at the moment, and we would have to wait, Zai came and helped reposition my father.
She brought him warm sheets, which was the first time we even knew those were available. She comforted him, truly touched him, and showed compassion. I saw her on two other occasions when she was with other patients, and she was very engaged, showed empathy, and built trust with not only my family but also others. She was very personal - she told us she was caring for her own mother.
She was just very warm and present. I didn't really get that feeling from many nurses I have encountered. Some nurses are distant, but Zai goes above and beyond, and we feel like she brings her heart to work. I wish other nurses would bring their hearts to work as much as she did.
