From the beginning, she made the effort to sit with me, listen without judgment, and treat me as a person—not just a patient.
I would like to nominate Nurse Irene for the DAISY Award in recognition of the care and support she has given me during my current admission. This is my fourth admission under section, and my past experiences have been very different. I never really had a named nurse who took the time to truly see me or connect with me. Irene has changed that. From the beginning, she made the effort to sit with me, listen without judgment, and treat me as a person—not just a patient. What makes her stand out is the way she supports me on a human level. She has taken the time to encourage me, recognise my strengths, and help me see a future for myself. When she told me I have the potential to become a mental health peer support worker, it genuinely meant a lot. No one has ever said something like that to me before, and it stayed with me. Her care has made a real difference to how I feel during this admission. For the first time, I feel heard, respected, and a bit more hopeful about where my life could go. That might sound small, but in this setting, it means everything. Irene is professional, consistent, and deeply compassionate. She goes beyond what is expected, not in a dramatic way, but in the quiet, steady way that truly helps someone heal. The impact she has had on me is something I won’t forget, and I believe she represents the very best of nursing care. Thank you for considering my nomination.
