You surpass the set standards of Nursing in every area. You are a role model, often emulated by your peers and among the Nursing staff. Where your peers experience difficulty in dealing with their patients, you are often called upon to resolve any patient issues. You demonstrate compassion in actions and communication with all the patients. One example of this is when one of your patient’s family members became frustrated and fearful because of their daughter’s diagnosis, you quickly worked with the family by acknowledging their feelings in a compassionate and professional way. Your caring demeanor calmed them, giving them a feeling of hope in light of the patient’s prognosis.

You make rounds with all the patients in the unit, leaving no doubts or issues. You greet the patients and families and clarify whatever questions they may have. You see to it that they are comfortable, pain and worry free. This was demonstrated when you found a patient with pancreatic cancer moaning and in a great deal of pain. You immediately reviewed his history and recognized a need for additional MD orders. Within minutes you administered the new medications to relieve this patient’s pain.
