It is with great pleasure that I nominate Zenaida, AKA Zee, from the ICU for the DAISY Award. I have had the great opportunity to work with such a talented and intelligent nurse. The ICU is staffed with the hardest working nurses I have ever worked alongside. However, Zee’s attention to detail stands out firmly. She is a true nurse leader and a great resource to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital.

She is an advocate for our prominently Hispanic population and builds strong relationships with her patients and their families because of her cultural relevance. Zee is the definition of a compassionate, empathic, honest, respectful, and responsible nurse. She is the type of nurse who comes to work every day to help her colleagues and patients. She gives care to her patients as if they were her loved ones. Zee goes above and beyond for the individual needs of her patients.

During the worst of the COVID pandemic, she always put the needs of others over her own. Any time I need help or advice on how to do procedures, she is willing to take her time to teach me. One of her most vital attributes as a nurse is sympathizing with patients and their families for "end of life" care. She offers spiritual care and prays with them. She is willing to sit with the patient during their last moments and their family to provide emotional support. Zee’s patients often thank her for her fantastic support during their challenging moments and allowing one to pass with dignity and comfort. Zee deserves to be recognized for her dedication to her patients and colleagues.
