Faye was my Shadyside Hospital Short Stay nurse on three of my treatment days earlier this month. All the nurses and support staff I had contact with on the SSU were amazing - generous, competent, compassionate - everything a patient could hope for. Even among the excellent group of healthcare professionals I had contact with, Faye stood out. Among the things I took note of, Faye went out of her way to make suggestions on my behalf to my doctor and the Short Stay team that led to meaningful adjustments in my treatment regimen. She also tracked down essential lab work that had not been done ahead of time. It was needed right away to prevent a delay in my treatment. My husband was with me for treatment, and Faye took the time to answer his questions and explain what she was doing to calm his concerns. She was never rushed, and juggled smoothly all the nursing tasks while caring for me and also attending to other patients in the unit. She was consistently encouraging and compassionate, and an outstanding role model for the profession.
