Mary Ann treats all the new orientees like her own son or daughter. She truly leads by example and cares about all her fellow employees. She is a fantastic nurse and an even better friend.
I have known Mary Ann for nearly 30 years since I was a neurosurgery resident at Loyola and she was the evening neurosurgery head nurse in the operating room. Mary Ann is a joy to work with and I know that when she is working in my room things will always go smoothly. She is hard-working and never fails to offer help to anyone who needs assistance. Mary Ann has a tremendous knowledge base and is good with problem-solving, even in challenging or unique and stressful situations. Mary Ann is also dedicated to providing patients with the best care and the best experience for their surgery. Her smile and kindness always make any difficult situation easier to navigate for patients, co-workers and physicians alike. As a neurosurgeon, I think that she represents the finest example of an operating room nurse and this recognition would simply be an affirmation of her knowledge, her skill, her warmth and her humanity as an extraordinary nurse.
