Jennifer Sirls practices compassion and dedication to all of her patients. She goes above and beyond to provide the best patient-centered care and gives her patient's parents the most 'normal' experience as possible in the NICU. She is positive, encouraging, thoughtful, and caring. When an infant was born at Wolfson with not one, not two, but an abundance of life-threatening health conditions, Jennifer not only stepped in to care for the infant but decided to become one of her 'primary' nurses. The very first day in the NICU this infant would be sent for critical emergency surgery, and Jennifer ensured that despite the chaos, and the fact this baby was on a ventilator, that these parents would be able to hold their infant. This moment was crucial because they didn't know at the time if their infant would survive the surgery. Jennifer gave these parents an experience that they will never forget, a courageous task that most nurses wouldn't attempt, given the infant's condition. Such a simple act of holding one's child, something that most take for granted, is a blessing in the NICU that some parents may not have the ability to experience for days, weeks, or even months. Jennifer has stuck by this infant's side through multiple surgeries, procedures, and care. She has and continues to leave an imprint on the families of the infants she cares for, and she gives the infants the best chance with her compassionate care. Jennifer, thank you for sharing your many gifts with us at Wolfson, you make us proud!
