When my wife and I first learned that I was going to have heart bypass surgery, the doctors did a great job of communicating the procedure and what we could expect. What neither my wife nor I realized, or even remotely considered, was that my recovery would be in the hands of total strangers.
This came to light from the first moment I awoke in recovery. We immediately realized what the doctors had communicated was coming to life. They were right. Not the imaginary idea I had planted in my head myself, the idea that I would be able to just get up and walk away. This also brought to life how my recovery would affect us and our entire family in ways that we cannot even put into words. We also learned that each day the focus would not be completely within our control. It would be shared with and in a way, dependent on these strangers.
Everyone that played a part in my recovery did a great job. Our overall experience exceeded any expectations we could have had, and we would like to extend a very sincere, "Thank You!"
We experienced one individual that truly stood out. We only know her by her first name Hung. We would describe her patient care, skills and quality of care as extraordinary. There was not just one individual situation that we can base this on. It was every minute of every hour that she was the RN for the day. She made us truly feel that the focus of my recovery was not only important, that it was a priority. Hung's skills and compassion truly exemplifies the DAISY Award.
