The day my father was diagnosed with cancer was life-changing. As weeks passed and his battle for life continued, hope started to dwindle away. I brought my father to the St. Vincent Healthcare Emergency Room.
Once he was admitted to the hospital we met with the Palliative Care doctor; she immediately went to work on controlling my father's pain. Everyone we met with was absolutely great and had a great attitude, but one person stood above the rest.
Anessa was my father's day time nurse. In the week we were there she showed my father more compassion and cared more than any doctor or nurse through his entire journey. When all hope was gone, Anessa was my father's "candle in the dark." She always had a big smile and a comforting voice. She would refer to my dad as, "my friend." The day he was discharged he was sad that he wasn't going to be able to say goodbye to her. Anessa brought hope back into my father's heart.
