Rabia Duddy is an integral part of SVBGH OR, well respected by physicians and peers. Rabia is what in many of us would call, "old school" in terms of her work ethic, sense of duty and responsibility, physical stamina and emotional flexibility. She does not shy away from new technologies or changes in treatment methods but embraces them enthusiastically even taking initiative to teach others as her greatest desire is to help others learn and to provide the safest, most compassionate care to her patients. Rabia has excellent communication skills and thrives in a fast-paced unit and is an amazing multi-tasker. Her patients experience her compassion and their needs and safety are always placed first.
Rabia always goes above and beyond and has been instrumental in spearheading a staff safety initiative to improve sharps injuries on the unit where she presented evidenced-based information to elevate the awareness of safety in the operating room. Rabia will also take the time to assist other nurses or students in learning what it's like to have a career in the OR. She willingly precepts students and new staff and is a role model for excellence in her practice. There were many times Rabia volunteered to complete a surgical case that went well beyond the end of her shift. She also stepped up to help fill in for a staffing vacancy on the weekend and has demonstrated exceptional leadership in handling the complexities of a weekend shift with limited support. Rabia has a soothing and caring approach whether it be as a Circulating RN, a Preceptor, or Charge RN. She serves as the ultimate patient advocate by establishing a level of trust with surgeons, patients, and staff. She offers creative approaches to overcome barriers and is very tuned into her patients; taking the time to listen to their concerns and to answer their questions.
It is a joy working with Rabia because I have witnessed her excellent nursing skills and compassionate attitude. She always displays a genuine happy, upbeat, and positive demeanor around physicians, staff, and patients even amidst the most challenging of circumstances. She comes to work with a bright smile and leaves at the end of her shift still with a bright smile even when her day was tough in ensuring her patients' needs were met. She always thanks the staff for good teamwork. Finally, Rabia is an extraordinary person and clinician who epitomizes nursing at its best.
