I recently learned about an act of Carepassion that occurred on 7 Memorial over the weekend. We have a patient here who has been with us for almost a month and is soon to be discharged to a local rehabilitation facility. Late last week one of our nurses, Lauren Biamonte, noticed that the patient seemed upset. Even though she was very busy, Lauren took the time to engage the patient in an effort to determine what was troubling her. She soon learned that, through a series of unfortunate events, the patient had been permanently separated from all of her personal belongings. She shared with Lauren that she felt worried and vulnerable about going to rehab without any clothing or personal effects. Lauren discussed the situation with other staff members who all immediately agreed that something should be done. Over the next few days, the staff of 7 Memorial donated well over $300 of their own money to a pool which was given to several staff members who spent numerous hours of their own time shopping for items for this patient. By Saturday, all the shopping was completed and the items were brought in and presented to her. This touching act of kindness had a significant impact on our patient, who became quite emotional when she realized how much each staff member had done to give her the resources she needed to progress to the next phase of her care with dignity. To me, this story typifies the Crouse culture of Carepassion, and I couldn't be more proud of my team.
