I was hospitalized for 9 days in isolation due to having the influenza virus. When Violet entered my room wearing her nursing cap and a face mask and looking very neat and proper, I was a little intimidated. That lasted for about a minute as I realized I was talking and being treated by a very knowledgeable, compassionate professional. During my time there, I could see how incredibly busy everyone was, including Ms. Spaulding. What set her apart from everyone else is that she was always calm and never forgot anything. Most importantly to me was that she was so compassionate, caring and took the time to answer the questions I had regarding different aspects of my care. She was, of course, wearing a mask like everyone had to when they entered my room so I could only see her eyes. Her eyes always showed that she cared and were always focused on me when we talked. That meant so much to me. Her professional demeanor made me feel calm. She explained every procedure done to me including what was being injected into me or my IV and why without me even asking. That was also very reassuring. She is an absolute intelligent professional with a natural caring and compassionate demeanor. I believe a person is born with some of these characteristics and some are learned. I consider myself very lucky and I am very grateful that I got to meet such an outstanding nurse. I believe Memorial is very lucky to have such a nurse treating their patients.
