Peggy is an exceptional charge nurse on the 8South medicine unit. Because of this, it comes as no surprise that she is a go-to for orienting and/or precepting students and new graduate nurses. Peggy recently had a new graduate nurse come off orientation to "fly on her own," but this new grad was assigned several high-acuity patients due to less than optimal staffing on the unit.
Peggy had worked her 12-hour shift from 7 AM-7 PM, and her new grad nurse was working the PM shift that same night. After giving the report, Peggy clocked out but remained on the unit until midnight as a resource for her newly independent nurse that she trained. What an amazing nurse that understands the support and retention of our new staff, as well as patient safety.
