I have had the pleasure of working with Narine in the ICU on night shift since 2005 as a peer and as her charge nurse. Over the last 12 years, Narine has trained countless new nurses who have passed through the ICU and many more who have stayed on. Narine embraces the ever changing environment of care and makes the language of nursing universal to patients and peers. Most of all, she takes her time to teach and coach. Narine has a thorough and fundamental understanding of care plans for every patient, but it is her ability to compassionately care for every patient that truly makes her a DAISY Nurse.
Narine recently cared for a patient who was in respiratory distress and had been on the cusp of intubation for multiple days. Her patient was in tears thanking her for taking time to give her a warm bath before bed. The patient stated, "you are the best nurse in this hospital".
Narine explained that regardless, she cleans every one of her patients before bed. Narine actively uses the "Nightingale theory of nursing" and cares for the most fundamental aspects of humanity and uses every tool and skill to put her patients in the best place to heal.
Her ongoing commitment to coaching new nurses to remain organized and to minimize nighttime interruptions further reinforces this crucial practice. Narine is the total package nurse, giving 100% to her patients every night.
