"Nurse, just another word to describe a person strong enough to tolerate everything and soft enough to understand everyone."
Going through my first delivery was nerve-wracking. I did not know what to expect. Dealing with hormones and labor pain all together was challenging for me. I tried so hard not to have a bad attitude, but with pain tipping the scale, it is hard to keep calm. Nurse Aurora is such a phenomenal nurse. Aurora was patient, kind, and extremely nurturing. I felt very comfortable having her by my side.
She came in to cover a fellow nurse for a few hours and ended up staying with me until I delivered my baby. I was in labor for about 12 hours, pushed for 2 hours and ended up having an emergency C-Section. After my C-Section, when I returned to the delivery room, I recall joking with her that she will soon be home with her family (Since she came in on her personal day off to cover her fellow nurse). After a few minutes, she returned to my room and I was surprised to see her back. I asked why she hasn't left. What she told me touched my heart. "I cannot leave you like this, I want to make sure that you are ok before I go home." I had to be isolated due to complications. I was under observation for the rest of the evening. Once everything was ok, all her notes were entered, and I was transferred to another room for observation. She gave me my last medication before I dozed off to sleep and that was the last time I saw her.
I experienced dedication and excellent patient care. She exemplified what nurses should be. I know that she did not need to be there since her replacement was there. She could have been with her family but chose to take care of a patient in need. I felt relieved to have Nurse Aurora by my side and made my first experience less nerve-wracking.
