Muntana is an exceptional ICU nurse who always goes above and beyond when providing care for patients as well as assisting the team.
She always demonstrates a compassionate, caring, positive attitude toward patients, family, colleagues, and all health care disciplinary team. All of her patients and families commended her for her compassionate care. All of the nursing staff and the health care team love to work with her because of her knowledgeable, positive attitude, caring, and willingness to help others.
Muntana's energy, compassion, and enthusiastic attitude generate the best positive work environment. She not only takes very good care of her patients; she offers assistance to staff who struggle as well. Most ICU patients are unresponsive and unable to speak for themselves. Muntana cares for them as she cares for her family. She not only effectively addresses patients' medical needs; she also cares for the patient's physiological needs as well. Muntana always addresses her patients' medical needs and carries out physician orders in a timely manner to bring the best possible medical outcome to her patients. She keeps her patients clean and neat. She takes her time to bathe her patients. She also either braids or ties a ponytail in her patient's hair or puts the cap on to keep the hair out of patient's face. She said she is very happy when her patients are well cared for. As I mentioned, she is not only taking very good care of her patients, she always reaches out to help other staff; especially, new ones to give them guidance and assistance. She treats all patients on the unit as her own. She is always attentive to the unit call-light, alarms, and phone calls.
Whenever we admit a new patient to the unit, Muntana is there to assist with getting the patient settling down. She got involved as that was her patient. Last week, we had a patient who admitted with S/P MVA. The patient had hip dislocation in which it was pushed back in place by the ER physician. The patient was scared to turn and seemed to be in so much pain when we turned him (even after pain medication was given). As an experienced/knowledgeable nurse, she learned that the patient should have a knee brace on to protect that dislocation fixed-hip. The knees brace gives the patient comfort and the affected hip is protected when he moves or turns. She advised the primary nurse to contact the physician to obtain a knee brace and hip precaution orders. ER physician was contacted and he agreed with ordering a knee brace. Muntana knows that we do not have a knee brace in our supply room; she went down to the ER to pick up a knee brace for this patient.
Another time, Muntana saw the monitor showing that my patient was consistently in tachycardia. She knows that I am a new ICU nurse. She saw that I was busy with my other patient. She offered her assistance in managing my patient's unstable status. She asked me about my patient, she came with me to reassess my patient; then she gave me guidance to have my patient's situation fixed.
Those stories are just a few of many cases that Muntana does for patients and staff who she has been working with. Whenever we thank her for helping out, she simply says, her goal is to provide safe/best quality care to all patients. She said she will do everything she can to provide comfort, safe care, and to bring the best possible outcome to all patients.
Her clinical skills, positive teamwork attitude, and her compassionate care to all patients made her an Extraordinary Nurse and an outstanding role model.
