Amy always takes time with our patients that have questions or concerns regarding their procedures here at Mercy. She puts our patients at ease and lessens their fears and anxiety.
These skills were put to the test when we had a very anxious patient scheduled for an embolization in radiology that called the nursing department requesting information on his procedure approximately 2 weeks prior to the procedure date. The patient was very young and never had anything like this done before. Amy called the patient and spent more than 30 minutes explaining in detail the procedure preparation, expectations and recovery. The patient was enthusiastically relieved after his phone call with Amy and told her he hoped he would see her on the day of his procedure.
Today, the patient came in for the procedure and by chance, Amy was the procedure nurse scheduled for the patient that day. Amy was not involved in a procedure when the patient arrived at patient control at 7 am, but she took it upon herself to go to see the patient and review all his pre-op information for the procedure. Amy took the time to answer all of the patient's questions and was with him from the time he entered the department to when he went to recovery. For this patient, Amy's dedication eased his anxiety and provided him with an excellent experience. Thank you, Amy, for your commitment to our patients!
