We had a patient who was very sick and unable to care for himself. On top of this, his family was very involved in his care. He had multiple family members visit and each family member wanted information. This family made 9 phone calls to the unit in the first 2 hours of our shift. Kathleen spoke to the head of the family and very patiently answered all the family's questions while being in charge of 2 units. Kathleen coordinated care with the doctors to get the patient visiting hours that were helpful and more convenient for the family. Kathleen spoke with this family every day she was in charge even when the patient belonged to other nurses. She wanted to make sure that the family had all their questions answered while making sure her nurses were not overwhelmed with the patient's family. The patient's family had a very difficult time accepting their family member's mental illness and Kathleen did her very best to be supportive of this family.
This is only one instance where Kathleen exhibited Loma Linda's values and that she is truly a DAISY Nurse. Kathleen is an amazing charge nurse who will check on all her staff throughout the day and offer help. Kathleen will help the other charge nurses who are managing the other units to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all the staff and patients. It is truly an honor to work alongside such an amazing nurse and leader.
