Esther Henning is an A-LPN Scrub on the labor and delivery unit, Esther goes above and beyond for our nurses, doctors, and patients on every shift she works. Our unit had a patient who was admitted for preeclampsia with severe features, which means strict bed rest. She was on magnesium, which continues until 24 hours after delivery and makes you feel bad on top of being confined to the bed. Esther took this patient under her wing during her long stay. She washed her hair for her on the shifts she worked and made sure all of her hygiene needs were taken care of. Esther made this patient headbands for her hair and would just sit and talk to her. Esther made sure her linens were changed when needed and that she was comfortable and happy throughout her extended stay with us. All of these things may seem small to some, but they brightened this patient's days. The patient looked forward to the days Esther worked, and that became the first thing she asked during morning report, "Is Esther working today?"
Esther is at the bedside for deliveries, holding legs, giving moms encouraging words when they are wanting to give up, helping the doctors, and collecting specimens. Esther didn't just go way above and beyond for that one patient, she does if for all of our patients.
She is an asset to our unit, hospital and to our patients. Her commitment to relationship-based care is obvious in all that she does and we are proud that she is a part of our family.
