Chanel is one who possesses 'extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care'.
As an employee, Chanel is very reliable and flexible - she often will pick up extra shifts when needed, stay late, come in early or switch her days around when possible. She is professional in her interactions with her coworkers and physicians; her communication skills are superb - she seeks clarification when needed and 'closes the loop' to avoid any misunderstandings. I often overhear her speaking with physicians on the phone and in person. Chanel is so fluid with using SBAR, it appears as second nature. Chanel is often chosen as a preceptor for new nurses and new hires because she is going to model the right way to do things.
I have also observed her interactions with patients and their family members. Chanel is consistently calm, reassuring, honest, and competent in the way that she communicates. Often, when there is a 'difficult' patient or complicated family dynamics, Chanel is hand selected to be the nurse for that patient because of her clinical skills in combination with her ability to provide a clear, honest explanation of the plan of care. Even if there are hard truths that need to be dealt with, she uses compassion and caring with the conversations. This helps her be a trusted provider to the most vulnerable - our patients, who are often facing life-changing moments. Chanel is truly a DAISY Nurse.
