I've been in and out of hospitals for more than sixteen years, and Shanice is hands down the most Extraordinary Nurse (and one of the more wonderful humans) I have ever met. Her presence in a room seems to perpetuate more healing than any medication (props for being magic!) Where many nurses I have known have "passed the buck" when patients ask questions about things that are technically outside their domain, she goes out of her way to find out as much as she can, to the great comfort and gratitude of us all. She strikes the balance between uplifting joy and sincere caring so flawlessly that we feel she must have been handcrafted by the gods to do what she does. Her attention to the tiny details that don't seem to matter much makes her a veritable nurse rock star. By way of example: several of our family members had gathered one night to support our father, recently diagnosed with cancer. One family member (not even the patient) happened to mention in passing that she was a little chilly. A mere minute later, Shanice showed up with two heated blankets, which she then personally wrapped around the family member herself before she was satisfied that the situation was remedied. All our encounters with Shanice have been this warm, thoughtful, and uplifting. I fully appreciate what a difficult and emotional job nursing can be, but despite several years in the profession, Shanice still manages to (excels at!) bring light and joy to those who need it most. She is a true DAISY Nurse!
