Roxanne's leadership skills are unlike anyone else's. She is always the first to jump in and help when she sees others struggling. She always leads by example. Even if she is busy and having a tough shift she will find time to put others first and help them. In one shift, she helped our unit admit 9 patients, filling us to capacity. She set up each room, assisted with IPA's and med recs, took vitals, and assisted with 4 eyes all with a smile on her face.
One day I will never forget was my first code blue. Roxanne was my rock this day. She helped admit this specific patient during the beginning of the shift where she got to meet the family. Around 3 am the patient went into cardiac arrest. Roxanne ran into the room to help, guiding me through the code and helping find the right words to say when notifying the family. Once the daughter walked in, she immediately remembered Roxanne from earlier that night. Roxanne walked over to her, hugged her, and explained what was happening. This is a moment I will never forget, Roxanne looked the daughter in the eyes and told her "your mom is in a better place". Both Roxanne and the daughter began to cry. The room grew silent after the daughter requested us to stop working on her mother. Roxanne stayed with the daughter until her other family arrived. After all the commotion Roxanne knew I was going to need her help. She guided me through the aftercare process and all that went with it. She took the time to show me what to do and how to do it all with patience.
Roxanne has shown leadership skills that we all can only hope to have one day. She is an amazing charge nurse and leads by example. She is a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
